PROJECTS

Streetscape Improvements
In conjunction with Harrison Township Wastewater Management's sewer replacement project, underground conduit for pedestrian lighting and period-enhanced sidewalks were installed on a portion of Main Street.

Pedestrian Lighting
HTB plans to provide the pedestrian lighting that has been approved by the Township and Historic Preservation Commission.

Benches
The Woman's Club of Mullica Hill has generously donated funds for the purchase of benches in memory of Shirley Enick.

Flowerpots
HTB has purchased several flowerpots which are visible along Main Street. Plantings are changed seasonally.

For more information about donating towards the streetscape improvements, please contact HTB at info@htbeautify.

Main Street New Jersey Application
Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) is a program of the NJ Office of Smart Growth, and provides the structure and resources communities need to bring business, culture and a sense of civic pride to downtown areas. MSNJ provides technical support and training, in areas including architectural design, marketing, and visual merchandising. More information about MSNJ can be found at www.mainstreetnewjersey.com.

Current Status
The MSNJ application was submitted early in September. The application process is competitive, with over twenty downtown areas competing for just a few designations. Mullica Hill was selected as a 2009 finalist, and was visited by the MSNJ Review Team in late September. However, no Main Street New Jersey designations were awarded in 2009. The process is on hold pending funding for MSNJ in the 2010 state budget. We expect that the MSNJ Review Team will reevaluate the finalists and possibly make designations in 2010 if funding is available.

How Can I Help?
The Economic Development Council and Beautification Committee are committed to developing Mullica Hill as the vibrant center of Harrison Township business, culture, and community. We are currently seeking volunteers for the community teams that will implement Main Street's Four-Point Approach: Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion. To volunteer, join our mailing list or update your profile. More information about the Four-Point Approach can be found at www.mainstreetnewjersey.com and at www.preservationnation.org/main-street.
